My question: come March, can the Yang Dipertuan Agung, protector of our Constitution, allow Umno to nominate a horribly tainted man to office when people are being disappeared around him even before he is in power? We are well beyond the euphemism of "money politics" here. Malaysia is on the verge of becoming a nation that will close an eye to murder, kidnapping, destruction of evidence and obstruction of justice.

Having normalized corruption in Malaysia we are about to normalize nastier stuff still, and more than that, to bow down before it.

Can the party president of a possibly illegal party nominated through an openly corrupt process be confirmed as our next all-powerful Prime Minister?

So how strong is your stomach? Or how easily do you forget? For your rezeki, your rice-bowl, to keep the show going, would you suck up to a power structure with a murder or two in the closet (and that's even before they've warmed up)? Would you kiss the adipose feet of the fat lady who has been thieving from the public?

Am I the only one who feels like he is watching a train-wreck in progress, in slow-motion? Apart from a tiger like RPK, I don't see anyone else rising up in moral outrage to stop this. Where are the other animals of the forest?

Umno is unsalvageable under the present structure and with the present monkeys in charge.

The alpha monkeys climbing all over Ku Din for walking by their banana tree should desist.

They used the Tribunal to charge Zaid. Then got him suspended when he questioned the tribunal. Just as they are doing now.

One set of rules for the monkeys.

The assault-rifle bearing, kick-boxing sakmongkol AK47 hits the bullseye on this theme. Although how he manages to shoot straight with those gloves on is a mystery to my little brain.

1. The call by Tengku Ahmad Rithauddeen, Chairman of The Disciplinary Tribunal, for UMNO to disband its youth, wanita and puteri wings, as part of the measures to curb corruption, has attracted much flack from the party's senior leaders including Dato Najib Razak. Instead of brushing aside the suggestion, as is the standard response of the party when confronted with something new, they should reflect and try to understand what Tengku Din was trying to tell them. Tengku Din was exasperated with the extent of the corruption permeating the party at all levels. He was saying that the Disciplinary Tribunal alone could no longer cope with the practice and culture of corruption within the party. As a loyal party man he was trying to politely tell the party leaders that UMNO could no longer be salvaged under the present structure, and under the present crop of leaders I might add.

2. What makes it so difficult for the Tribunal to effectively carry out its functions is the selective prosecution it must practice in the discharge of its duties. Actions can only be taken if required or useful to certain top leaders. The Tribunal lacks clear mandate from the party management in dealing with money politics, UMNO's euphemism for corrupt practice. When I was suspended for allegedly being involved in money politics, I knew that Tengku Din, although Chairman, was not involved in making the decision. Someone else in the management wanted me out. So an UMNO member will be subject to investigation and harassment if he does not belong to the right camp. Many others will escape with impunity and they can bribe the delegates as much as they want and not get the attention of the Tribunal. So even Tengku Din now realises the futility of having the Disciplinary Tribunal to deal with corrupt practice. I therefore urge Tengku Din to retire and resign from the Tribunal.

3. UMNO leaders who are critical of Tengku Din should also be mindful that they are not supposed to criticise him or the Tribunal. Look what happened to me for criticising the Tribunal and for not wanting to apologise when asked. I got suspended because they said I violated party ethics. UMNO got ethics? Well that's the true story. So they same fate will fall on Dato Najib and his friends in the Supreme Council. They too may get suspended if they continue to criticise the Disciplinary tribunal or its Chairman.This is of course wishful thinking, as there are rules in UMNO that apply to some but not to others.

Hishammuddin Hussein is living proof that Umno is dead. He represents to the public just how deeply stupid and incapable Umno's next generation is, whatever the advantages they have been given. He's the young bangsawan with the yokel manners. He's the youth leader with the right wing rhetoric. He's the keris-wielder with a mind of mush. He's living proof of the principle of regression to the mean.

It wouldn't be so bad if he were a marginal or older figure in Umno. But as Youth Chief, and Minister of Education, he is the paragon of Umno's, and BN's future. And he's determining your kids' future.

Hishammuddin: Compromise on contest possible
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 28 — The suggestion by the Besut Umno division that candidates for the party’s deputy presidency compromise to avoid a contest is not a far-fetched one, said Umno Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.

He said the matter was not impossible as that was Umno’s way and that due consideration for determining the party’s leadership was not just Umno’s or the Barisan Nasional’s matter but should be a comprehensive matter.

“If there is something that can be discussed, we should discuss it, and what needs to be distributed after March we should distribute now,” said Hishammuddin who is in Mecca to perform the umrah.

Hishammuddin said this when commenting on the Besut Umno division’s suggestion that the candidates for the party’s deputy presidency and the vice-presidents’ post compromise ahead of the party’s polls in March.

In the same statement, Hishamuddin also commented on the suggestion by Umno’s discipline board’s chairman, Tan Sri Tengku Ahmad Rithaudeen Tengku Ismail, that the party restructure its organisation by abolishing its wings if it really wanted to do away with money politics.

Hishammuddin said the call was not acceptable and was impractical to implement.

“I respect him as an experienced veteran but in all humility I feel the suggestion is not right. If that were to happen it would portray that we are faced with great pressure.

“Party members have been in the wings from very early on. Several roles have been played effectively by the wings and we have seen a good organisational structure,” he said.

Hishammuddin said Tengku Ahmad Rithaudeen may have his own opinions and reasons on the matter but to resolve the matter there was no short-cut. — Bernama

It's ok to stitch up the contest for Deputy and Vice Presidential Posts. 'it's Umno's way', to avoid open elections. Wherever possible, avoid the open, go for the stitch up. And when in government, avoid open tender. If you can't direct nego, then collude. Same principle. The Umno way.

Just "distribute", he says. And let's get down to it as soon as possible. Why come to think of it, this is exactly all that he has done in his years as Minister of Education. Distribute. Projects. Don't ask him if he's done a thing to improve our schools in four years.

On the other hand, Ku Din's suggestion for reform is unacceptable because, horror of horrors, it makes Umno look like it's actually "under pressure" after, say, losing only two by-elections in a row. This is supposed to be a refutation of Ku Din's suggestion. i.e. It's hard to do, and it makes us look like we need to do it." In the immortal words of Alfred E. Neuman, "What me worry?"

He backs a reactionary suggestion. He quashes a progressive one. He says the proposal to dissolve Umno's wing's is 'impractical to implement' but then calls it a 'short cut'. Pre-empting party elections by cutting a deal is not a 'short cut', however. When in doubt, remember the Neumanuddin maneuver: spout something that makes 'em go "Huh?"

Hishammuddin is the perfect antidote to anyone who still harbors fantasies that Umno will get better. He hasn't a whit of the intelligence or dignity of the old man he patronizes, and he's the future.

Every time he gets up to say something I cringe in embarrassment. For him. For me, for Malaysians who suffer having him represent us abroad at UNESCO and in front of our school children, where it becomes clear to all the moment he opens he mouth, the man is a simpleton, an arrogant, entitled simpleton. And he is our Minister of Education.

If this man and his like are the future of Umno, the entire country must hope Umno is buried. Soon. Please.

Multiracial BN with direct admission would be humiliating for UMNO?

Wow. That says a lot about UMNO. Or maybe about Shabery.

Ahmad Shabery's statement that a single party BN open to direct entry is tantamount to dissolving UMNO is an example of the kind of narrow minded, alarmist thinking that declares to the world that UMNO is a party full of backwoods types stuck in a time warp . The fact that it comes from one of UMNO's younger leaders, and allegedly with an education, is liable to make people lose all hope in UMNO. Hey Shabery, is UMNO membership a dumbing down process? Or is it the ministership, and all the shape-changing you now feel you need to do, once again, to cuddle up to the Boss-to-be?

Before Datuk Shabery puts on the amateur dramatics about the move being "a cruel blow to UMNO", he might want to ponder a moment if it is really impossible for UMNO to coexist with a BN that can admit members directly. Even Abdullah-not-a-policy-genius-Badawi sees possibility in the idea. He, too, suggests that BN might admit members directly. Though much older than Ahmad Shabery, the Prime Minister shows greater flexibility of mind in considering new ways for UMNO to be relevant. A "BN Club" whatever you call it, of direct members within the party could well coexist with UMNO and provide a useful moderating influence on the behaviour of the racial component parties. That moderation Shabery might find "humiliating." Perhaps because the young people who might want to join a "BN Club" would be smarter and better motivated than you? Provide a little competition? Ah.. you prefer them in the Opposition.

Shabery should think a little first before he makes a drooling, mudslinging fool of himself again as he did in the debate with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Young leaders of modest intellect, wavy spine and prodigious bodeking ability like Shabery are the real "cruel blow" to UMNO.

Why oh why should Malaysians, and the Malays, want to have yet another spineless politician claiming to be a pejuang bangsa? Here's a rhino calling you a dino, Shabery Cheek.

Shabery: One-party BN is like dissolving Umno
KEMAMAN, Oct 11 - Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek today spoke against the proposal to turn the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition into a single multi-racial party, saying it was tantamount to dissolving Umno, which is the mainstay of the government.

As an Umno member, Shabery said, he regarded the proposal as a cruel blow to Umno, which made it seem that the party was no longer relevant in the context of the current political scenario.

"If any Umno leader were to talk of turning BN into a single multi-racial party, it will be akin to dissolving Umno ... and it is a humiliation for Umno. I am not prepared to accept this," he told reporters at his open house at the Dewan Sri Amar, here.

Umno was still strong and relevant in the context of national development, he said, adding that Malaysia was the best progress story among countries in the region, thanks to the BN government helmed by Umno.

Ahmad Shabery said the cooperation among the BN component parties was at its best for national development.

"Should there be weaknesses (in the BN), they should be rectified but there is no necessity for a structural change," he said.

He said the important thing was to strengthen the BN and find ways to regain the support of the people for the coalition.

"There are ups and downs in history. Today, we see a poor performance by the BN. But it does not mean that the BN has to undergo a total change. Every time there is an economic problem, political problems may ensue," he said.

"I believe that when the world economic situation improves, the people will come back (to the BN) because there is no government better than the BN in bringing about development and giving the people the best," he said.

On the latest statement by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim that Pakatan Rakyat might form a new government before Hari Raya Aidiladha on Dec 8, Ahmad Shabery said such statements should no longer be entertained. – Bernama

Then you can explain how the Indians have suffered discrimination and marginalization under the NEP. Then you can explain why Hindraf may be relevant.

Then you show you understand your own cause.

Then people might support your cause.

Furore over racist blog posting

The Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) has called on the police to take action against a controversial blogger for posting inflammatory racist remarks against the Indian Malaysian community.

Hindraf’s Penang coordinator MN Anbalgan, 37, and information chief S Vadi Velan, 28, have lodged a police report in Butterworth last week against the blogger’s posting in her ‘Life is a drama’ website.

The duo want the police to investigate the blogger, who has identified herself only as ‘Sammy’ in her blog, for allegedly maligning the Indian community with utmost contempt in a posting on Sept 23.

'Sammy’s racist remarks were totally uncalled, unacceptable and unbecoming of a true Malaysian.

‘Her posting insults Indians, embarrass her own community and reflects badly on the polarisation of Malaysian society,’ said Anbalgan.

Malaysiakini has obtained a copy of the alleged Sammy’s racist posting, which has since been removed by the blogger.

Blogger: I hate Indians

The 22-year-old blogger posted her comments after her mobile phone was stolen by two alleged Indian youths when she was having lunch at her office in Kuala Lumpur on Sept 23.

The alleged posting read: “I hate Indians. It’s bad enough they are famous for being drunk and rude (most of them anyway). Now they carry the reputation of being stealer, robbers, rapist, idiots, morons, drunkard bastards and list goes on...”.

The blogger continued that “I am not trying to be racist but it always Indian. It’s Indian fault. I don’t care if I am sued for racism.”

Explicitly describing Indians as “damn assholes” and “idiotic”, she dared Indians to complain to her blog and even sue her on the inflammatory racist remarks.

She criticised Indians of trying to live on other people’s hard-earned livelihood.

“You Indians have got no hands and legs to work and earn money, is it?

“Stealing from other people is a happy thing and your source of income, eh? Wait for the day of your fall and people will kick you on the roadside for stealing,” she allegedly posted.

A check revealed that Sammy, who is currently employed in an advertising firm in Kuala Lumpur, had withdrawn the alleged posting after she was continuously bombarded with racist, sexist and other derogatory comments from her readers.

Two days after her controversial blog, the blogger posted a grudging apology.

“Sorry if I offended any Indians. You should know that if you're one of the good, educated ones then you shouldn't be disturbed by what I say,” Sammy wrote.

“Yes, yes, I am racist, but not all times. It doesn't help the fact that most of the phone snatchers I heard are Indians. Or Malay or Indons.”

Bukit Aman to investigate

Butterworth police told Malaysiakini that the department would investigate the case along with the Bukit Aman national headquarters since the alleged posting was made in Kuala Lumpur.

Vadi Velan wants the police to get to bottom of the complaint since the posting had deeply hurt Indian feelings.

“Her posting can ruin efforts to build national solidarity and affect racial unity,” he said.

Meanwhile, about 1,000 Hindraf activists plan to pay a visit to Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s Hari Raya open house at the Millennium Hall in his Kepala Batas constituency this Saturday.

They plan to leave from Butterworth to Kepala Batas in a convoy of cars to wish Abdullah festive greetings and ‘forgive him’ for detaining five Hindraf strongmen - P Uthayakumar, 47, T Vasanthakumar, 35, M Manoharan, 47, R Kenghadharan, 41, and V Ganabatirau, 35 under the Internal Security Act.

They will also urge the premier to repeal ISA and release all detainees, estimated to be nearly 80, from the Kamunting Detention Centre in Perak.

Hindraf activists paid a similar visit to premier’s open house on Wednesday in Kuala Lumpur.
